MULTI-FREQUENCY/MULTI-PROTOCOL 125 kHz to 5800 MHz Sentinel RFID readers are typically integrated with standard serial communication interfaces, such as RS-232, to connect the reader to a host computer. However, the limitations of serial communication cables mean readers must be located within 12 feet of the computer. Using Bluetooth, a new wireless communication standard, Sentinel can convert an existing reader into a Bluetooth-enabled RFID reader, thus eliminating the serial cable and allowing the reader to be placed hundreds of feet from the host. All this is done transparently to the host and the reader; neither device knows the serial cable has been replaced by a Bluetooth wireless link.
